The Magical Isaiah Zagar

Located on Philadelphia's South street is the entrance to a magical universe. Philadelphia's Magic Gardens is a true masterpiece created by Isaiah Zagar; an incredible artist that turned his vision into more than 200 pieces of art on public walls. Zagar started his work on what is now the magic gardens in 1991 and according to the muesum still considers it unfinished. Are all things great unfinished? One of Spain's most haunting and beautiful attractions; Sagrada Familia is unfinished by it's architect Antoni Gaudi. Unfinished... and mysterious. The fact that Zagar's work is under construction leaves room for interpretation. That is truly what makes his art work so incredible. Every person who walks through the small and narrow allies filled with broken bottles , cracked plates and unfamiliar faces has the opportunity to interpret Zagar's work and discover what story lies within. Zagar's medium is mosaic. Mosaic is broken pieces put together to create something beautiful. As I walked through the exhibit I caught glimpses of my self in cracked mirrors on the wall, a reflection. Life is crazy , messy and can be broken , but if you take the time to sit in the garden once in a while you can appreciate the joyful and calm moments. Without the crappy parts of life people would not understand what it is to be happy. Maybe that is what Isaiah Zagar is trying to do. Maybe he is trying to make us reflect on our lives through art work. If you live within the Tri-state area I strongly recommend making a day trip to see what you can discover in Philadelphia's Magic Gardens.

Parking tip: There is a garage on 11th and south street which is relatively close to the museum! (It is also near Clinton street)

Food Recommendation: If you are looking for somewhere unique , funky and delicious to eat try the Tattooed Mom! Just blocks away from the museum it is perfect for a quick drink or a bite to eat. It has many vegan options and great service! They also have a burger of the month for just 5$! If you like spicy food like me I recommend the Honey Sriracha fried chicken wrap!
